The School Administrative Unit #9 (SAU #9) invites highly qualified and future focused candidates to apply for the position of Superintendent of Schools, with a start date of July 1, 2024.
SAU#9 provides educational services for students in the Mount Washington Valley from Albany, Bartlett, Chatham, Conway, Eaton, Hart's Location, and Jackson, NH. At the 7th and 8th grade levels, students from Madison and Freedom enter our schools. By the time they reach the 9th grade, we also welcome students from Tamworth. The mission of SAU#9 is to cultivate the natural inclination to learn by providing an exceptional environment in which students embrace excellence in learning for a lifetime of success.

The SAU #9 is located in Conway, New Hampshire in the heart of the Mount Washington Valley, 50 miles outside Portland, Maine and the seacoast. Mount Washington Valley, NH offers residents access to first class medical facilities, high-tech and commercial businesses, top tier primary educational options, as well as an array of outdoor recreational opportunities.
The SAU #9 serves just over 1,700 students in seven schools:
Conway Elementary School (grades K-6), Conway
John Fuller Elementary School (grades K-6), North Conway
Pine Tree Elementary School (grade K-6), Center Conway
A. Crosby Kennett Middle School (grade 7-8), Conway
Kennett High School (grade 9-12), North Conway
MWV Career & Technical Center (grade 9-12), North Conway
Josiah Bartlett Elementary School (grade Pre-K—8), Bartlett
Jackson Grammar School (grade K-6), Jackson

The School Administrative Unit #9 is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Superintendent of Schools with a proven track record. The position offers the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students.
The Superintendent will join a team of highly skilled and dedicated administrative team, including: Assistant Superintendent of Schools, Director of Special Services, Director of Budget and Finance and the Director of Administrative Services.
The next Superintendent of the School Administrative Unit #9 must demonstrate:
• The resourcefulness to promote student performance and development as primary objectives
• The ability to successfully work with eight separate schools boards and the municipal budget committee
• The capacity to connect collaboratively with district employees
• Knowledge of budgets and financial management and consciousness of fiscal responsibility
• Outstanding communication and leadership skills
• Support of the Mission Statement of the Strategic Plan, and highlighting the district accomplishments while aligning ideas towards district goals
• A commitment to continuing to lead a well-established district wide Leadership Team
Qualified candidates must have strong central office experience combined with a background in public education and building administration. An advanced graduate degree is preferred, and New Hampshire Superintendent certification or eligibility for certification is necessary. The deadline for receiving applications is January 12, 2024. It is anticipated that application materials will be reviewed beginning January 18, 2024, with interviews scheduled shortly thereafter. The expected start date for the new Superintendent is July 1, 2024.
Requirements
(1) Master’s Degree or higher with emphasis in Educational Leadership or School Administration
(2) At least 5 years of successful experience in district level administration
(3) Demonstrated ability in leadership, public relations, financial management, curriculum, and oral and written skills
(4) Certified or certifiable as a Superintendent of Schools in New Hampshire
