Description

The Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources is responsible for the planning, organizing, evaluating and
directing the overall administration of the Department of Human Resources, Risk Management and Employee
Benefits. This position is responsible and accountable for the overall strategic direction of employee workforce
recruitment and retention.



Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited educational institution in human resources management,
    educational administration, business management or Juris doctorate degree from an accredited law
    school with experience in labor and employment or related field
  •  A minimum of (7) seven years of progressive experience in public education including both teaching
    and school administration or prior experience covering a broad spectrum of human resource/public
    and governmental relations management, including procedural and policy formulation

  • Experience and knowledge of theories, techniques, and methodologies of human resources
    management, including recruitment and selection, training methodologies, reward systems, employee
    benefits, and risk management

  • Experience and knowledge of human resource laws, regulations, policies, and practices with emphasis
    on those laws and policies specific to education reform and public schools

  • Knowledge of school district operations and procedures

Certification

Society for Human Resources Management SHRM-SCP Certification, Human Resources
Certification, Institute SPHR Certification, or American Association of School Personnel Administrators pHCLE Certification

Work Experience

Seven (7) years of extensive and progressive experience in Human Resources

Preferred Qualifications

  • School district experience

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices, procedures, theories, techniques, and
    methodologies of human resources management, including recruitment and retention selection,
    training methodologies, reward systems, employee benefits, and risk management

  • Knowledge of school district operations and procedures

  • Comprehensive knowledge of innovative strategies and best practices associated with sourcing,
    recruiting, interviewing, retention, development, and employee evaluation
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise people and to work cooperatively with other departments and
    agencies
  • Ability to work with and through School Board members, the superintendent and employees
  • Demonstrated ability to connect with a diverse population and to observe, listen, motivate, and
    provide leadership to create and maintain effective relationships

  • Strong collaborative problem-solving skills including the ability to partner with key stakeholders to
    build consensus and develop innovative solutions that foster resolution

  • Ability to develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate program goals and initiatives
  • Knowledge of current computing technologies and HRIS software applications appropriate to the position

  • Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects and responsibilities

  • Ability to exercise strict confidentiality in handling sensitive information

  • Demonstrated ability to develop/implement timely, applicant–responsive procedures for processing candidates

  • Excellent communication skills
